Addis Ababa, January 26 - A large outdoor LED news screen sponsored by Hisense was showcased at the new African Union Compound. The new screen will transform the agency news transmission from manual to digital internet as well as television broadcast in AU compound.
Commissioner of Division of Communication and Information at the AU Ms. Habiba Mejri-Cheikh, stated that the big screen will improve the exchange of information between Africa and China. Mr. Wang Chaowen, the African Regional Bureau Director of Xinhua News Agency, also acknowledged that the screen sponsored by Hisense displayed the efforts that Hisense and Xinhua News Agency made to establish a closer link between the African Union and Ethiopia, with the big screen playing an important role in promoting the friendship between China and Africa.
It is not the first time that Hisense collaborated with Xinhua News Agency to erect a large outdoor screen abroad. In December 2010, Hisense's first overseas big screen which was donated to Xinhua News Agency to present to the Zimbabwe government was erected in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. In May 2011, Xinhua News Agency in partnership with Hisense launched another outdoor screen in Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg, South Africa covered the event along with pictures and TV plays from Xinhua News Agency to bring a little bit of Chinese culture to South Africa.
The screen situates at the new headquarters of the African Union, which was funded and constructed by the Chinese government. Nearly 100 guests, including Mr. Chi Jianxin President of the China-Africa Development Fund, Mr. Song Sudong from the Chinese-aid projects and Ethiopian media representatives attended the ceremony.
